How gadgets and the social media rescued Nigerian youths.

Have you taken time to ask yourself why you have not turned a tout or a bus conductor? Have you also asked yourself why you've never ended up in motel like some girls do now?

The thing is that the country is so hard on its citizens that thousands of youths graduate every year from the universities and polytechnics and yet they end up seating at home pressing there phones.

ASUU recently called off its over 5 months strike . Have you ever imagined what these students were busy doing all these while. Oh! You think they are working? Or you think they're trying to finish up there abandoned projects they left because of school stress and all that?

Wake up because you are dreaming. They all were busy with there gadgets, blackberries, I pads, I phones, Tecnos and Nokia Lumias and Ashas. They were busy facebooking , tweeting , whatsapping, pinging and androiding.

Imagine a Nigerian youth without a social network life. Hell will be better than life here.

Akure gets female regent

Princess Adetutu Adesida Ojei was yesterday installed as the new Deji of Akure to fill the position which has been vacant since the 1st of December 2013.
She took over from the late Oba Adesida.

Despite the numerous pleas by the former Oba, Prince Oluwadare Adesina to be reinstalled back. Adesina was deposed in may 30, 2010 for battering his wife Olori Bolanle, now late.

Long live the Queen abi na Obacess.

Gov Amaechi denies having an affair with Wole Soyinka's daughter.

For the governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, the christmas holidays offered an added opportunity as he took time to respond to claims making round that he was having an affair a daughter of Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, and that the daughter, never named in the rumor, was pregnant.
The governor denied the rumour through his twitter handle on December 18. PREMIUM TIMES became aware of the tweets Saturday morning.
The rumour, in Port Harcourt, widely broadcast, claimed that a daughter of the Nobel Laureate was expecting a child for Mr. Amaechi and that she was already living in the Government House.
It was further alleged that the governor’s wife, Judith, had moved abroad following the domestic challenges she was having with her husband.
It was claimed that the absence of the First Lady gave Mr. Soyinka’s daughter the opportunity to establish her full presence in the Government House.
But in the tweet, Mr. Amaechi debunked the rumour, saying it was a big lie, which was part of the ongoing campaign to smear his image.
“That rumour about me and Prof. Soyinka’s daughter is a big outrageous lie. It’s certainly part of the ongoing political campaign to smear…..”
In another tweet, the governor said his marriage to his wife was intact, adding that they both love themselves.
“…..me and Prof. Soyinka. I have never and will never assault my wife Judith. I love her so much and she loves me too. Our marriage DEY KAMPE. (Top Form).”

On December 24, the governor tweeted a touching birthday message to his wife Judith. The message was accompanied by a romantic photograph, with the governor wrapping himself around his wife.
“Happy birthday to the most beautiful, loving, caring, trustworthy woman alive – my beloved wife and mother of my children, Judith. You’ve been a pillar to me, my partner through thick and thin. I love you so much my darling,” he wrote.
He posted the same message to his Facebook page.
Mr. Soyinka appears to enjoy warm relationship with Mr. Amaechi.
In July, after an open-door lecture series tagged: “WS79 – Memoirs of Our Future: An Audience with Prof. Wole Soyinka,” which held at the African Centre in Covent Garden, London, to commemorate his 79th birthday anniversary, the Nobel Laureate told journalist he was Mr. Amaechi’s friend just as he was to other public officers.
Responding to a question on whether he was a friend of the governor, following his spanking of Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, Mr. Soyinka said, “That Amaechi is my friend is not an allegation.”
He said he would be friends with anyone who has been given the mandate of the people through the electoral process.
He added that he would not shy away from identifying with public office holders if they were fulfilling their obligations and responsibilities of governance.
“To say the Governor of Rivers is my close friend is like saying Kayode Fayemi or Dr. Babangida Aliyu or Governor Ibikunle Amosun or even the Second Republic Governor, Mohammed Shugaba, in Shagari’s administration, is my friend,” Mr. Soyinka said.
He, however, pointed out that “it’s not a matter of friendship,” but defence of democracy and truth, noting that he would not be afraid to switch loyalty if the people he once praised change their ways and start oppressing the same people who elected them.

What do you think of him?

My trouble with Jonathan –Gov Amaechi

FROM CHRIS ANUCHA & TONY JOHN, PORT HARCOURT
Recently some reports had made the rounds that he impregnated the daughter of a prominent professor, and that the girl had already moved into his house. Another version of the story had it that the governor had problems with his wife, over her advice that he should soft-pedal on his approach to the rift between him and the presidency, for his own safety.
But the governor, during a chat with newsmen at the Government House, said his marriage was intact, contrary to what his opponents alleged that his wife ran away from Nigeria because he impregnated another girl.
He said: “That story is bad, but at least, it brought back my wife. I don’t think she was planning to celebrate Christmas in Nigeria. But with that story, I said, listen, you need to come back, so that they would know that you have not divorced me. So, she is back to see the husband, spend time with the husband, do some of her functions as wife of the governor; so that my opponents will know I’m still married. I am not just married, I am a Catholic. How many of you know what we say about Catholic marriage? As solid as a Catholic marriage, you have no room for divorce, you have absolutely no room for divorce. What you have is room for annulment, and only one ground can a marriage be annulled in the Catholic Church. That means, the marriage never took place; that means, the woman either deceived you into marrying her or the man deceived you into marrying him. If there was no deceit, any other thing is, for better, for worse.
“So, for those of you who publish such information…if you know me, you would know that it didn’t bother me.
My wife has also become like me; it didn’t bother her. But when our parents began to say, ‘No, we want to confirm, come home for some weeks’…”
The governor also used the forum to give more reasons for the misunderstanding between him and  President Goodlkuck Jonathan, and why he decided to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said: “Like most of you may have known, I have since left PDP to a better party, All Progressives Congress, because PDP is a drowning party.”
According to the governor, between now and March 2014, more members of the National Assembly, including the Senate, would decamp to APC, thereby, turning   PDP into opposition, instead of the ruling party it is at present.
“I can assure you that more governors will leave. They are quite uncomfortable,” Amaechi said, stressing that it would be difficult for PDP to win the presidential election in 2015.
According to the governor, his problem with the president started when the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan attempted to interfere in the governance of Rivers State and he resisted the move.
“I left PDP because, there was an attempt by the wife of the President to micro-manage governance in Rivers State and I said, no, you can’t, I’m elected, if I fail, the people won’t say the wife of the president failed, they would say, Governor Amaechi failed. So I’m accountable to God, to men and women of Rivers State,” Amaechi said.
Another reason he gave for his grouse with President Goodluck Jonathan was the injustice he meted out to Rivers State. Among them, he further explained, was the ceding of oil wells belonging to the state to Bayelsa and Abia States. He also adduced his rift with the president to his challenge to the Federal Government to account for N49 billion.
He said many Nigerians did not know that the governors were on strike for three months, as they refused to collect their monthly allocations. He disclosed that under former President Olusegun Obasanjo and late Umaru Yar’Adua, the total money made from oil subsidy was N300 billion, adding that in the first year of Jonathan’s administration (2011), it moved up to N2.3 trillion. He said as the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, he was privileged to know the financial stand of the country during meetings with the president.
“I have been saying it for the past two years, since 2011, because I was Chairman of Governors’ Forum, I was sitting in the meetings with the president. I’m telling you why they want to crucify me. This fight is about change, it is about good governance and accountability,” Amaechi further said.
He insisted that people from the Niger Delta region, especially, Rivers people, were not benefitting from President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, citing the East-West road as an example. He disclosed that it was after he challenged the Minister for the Niger Delta that money was borrowed to commence work on the road.
He also condemned the Federal Government’s failure to expedite action on the construction work going on at the Port Harcourt International Airport, as was the case in Abuja, Lagos, Cross Rivers, Sokoto airports, among others.
He said: “They don’t like Rivers State. They hate us. I repeat, let Mr. President tell me what he has done for Rivers State. Should I remain in that kind of party that denies Rivers State its resources? Should I?”
  1. Amaechi accused President Jonathan of diverting projects meant for Rivers to Bayelsa State. He mentioned the Zonal Air Force Base, which late President Umaru Yar’Adua recommended to be sited in Rivers State and work on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Bonny, Rivers State, which has been suspended in favour of Brass LNG.

Day a female fan kissed me in my wife’s presence –Chijoke Mbanefo (Osadebe Jnr.)

By CHRISTIAN AGADIBE
He has been described as the successor to the late Ichie of highlife music, Chief Osita Osadebe. His compositions, arrangement and delivery style all attest to this. In this interview, Prince Chijoke Mbanefo aka Osadebe Junior, who just returned from London and South Africa, laments the cold reception of highlife music in Nigeria and recalls the day a female fan planted a kiss on him in the presence of his wife. Excerpts:
Why did you travel to London and South Africa?
I actually went for a show in London. I went there in response to an invitation. My London trip was really an eye opener. I played my music as it was supposed to be and the whites enjoyed all the numbers thoroughly. They pranced about enjoying them. The gist of it all was that they were dancing to the beats of my songs and they did in the typical Oyibo way, showing all the excitement. I spent one week in London but I really enjoyed every moment of my stay. From London I moved to South Africa where I spent two months with my band men. We were there when Nelson Mandela died; we were even at his burial. There we confirmed once more the place of highlife music, they love our music and this encouraged us to record an album that will be released on January 15, 2014. In this work, I was able to try out few South African languages with a view to reaching out to the South Africans who may be opportune to listen to the record now or in future. I did a song entitled, ‘Goodbye Mandela’ in English for the benefit of foreign listeners.
What is the place of highlife music outside Nigeria?
From what I have seen, highlife is a universally accepted form of music. The whites have no doubt been yeaning for such unique and rich African music. Their enthusiasm may have stemmed from the fact that they are used to rock, pop and other forms of music. They know what they have and what they don’t have. They don’t hide it, too.
Do you think this impressive update is a pointer for Nigerians to embrace highlife music and promote it to anywhere in the world?
I seriously believe that most people in government and some Nigerians know that highlife music is our own cultural brand. For this reason, patriotism demands that we all must love highlife music and identify with it anywhere, anytime. I wish those in government know the implications of promoting hip-hop and other forms of foreign music. It is high time we acknowledged and identified with our own for the sake of re-orientating our children, for the sake of presentation and promotion of our culture through music. This is important and necessary. My recent recognition and award as one of the Igbo music ambassadors make me believe that some Nigerians know the importance of highlife music. This alone has given me all the hopes concerning the future of highlife music and other indigenous forms of music.
A female fan once kissed you in the presence of your wife, how did she react?
Oh yes, a female fan kissed me in the presence of my wife! I embraced such on the basis of being a fan, and luckily my wife knew and accepted this as an ordinary gesture of love. The innocence I displayed no doubt stamped the fact that I had nothing to do with her.
Is your record label happy with your progress?
They are and have been showing this in their willingness to assist me at the slightest opportunity. As a result of this, we have been living as one indivisible family.
Are you willing to renew your contract with your record label?
It is a six-year contract that will expire in 2016. Like any other human being, I thank God that I have made steady progress. For this, I think that I am more matured, more experienced and exposed. This may have been shown in the number of those coming to me for business. For now, I don’t want to jump the gun as per making any statement regarding my renewal with Ojes Music label. However, the prospects are bright because we are one big family
